10 Insane Ways How Humans Colonize The Space

Posted on

Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, and Elon Musk are some of the prominent technologists and scientists. If you think we can colonize the universe, you are not alone. They have expressed their argument that it is possible to colonize in the space. Even though we did not start our step on Mars yet, we need to know the possible way on how to get there and to colonize the galaxy.

10. Space Crafts

A long time ago, humans had been colonizing the Earth by packing up and moving there. We can use a similar way to colonize the space. Unfortunately, scientists believed that the nearest planet was about 14 light years away. It means the location is about 82 trillion miles. If human master the interstellar space travel, surely this way is a possible thing to do. We can send our large colony.
Interestingly, in 2026, Mars One has planned their journey to send 100 people to colonize Mars. We can travel to Mars with those people after taking 150 years. Anthropologist Cameron Smith from Portland State University explained we need about 20,000 or 40,000 people to send to the new planet, with at least 23,000 of them is men.

9. Cyborg

The first project that proposed robotics was in 19560. At that time, a NASA scientist named Manfred Clynes speculated humans could colonize the universe. He added that science could create a human and robotic interface as the upgrades. At this point, humans would be capable of exploring the space.
This theory became the base for Kevin Warwick, a cybernetics expert at the University of Reading. He then thought that humans could colonize the space by removing their brains and then implanting them in androids to survive on different planets. Alternatively, humans could create specialized androids to stay on these planets.

8. Artificial Intelligence

Could we colonize the next solar system that is about 4.23 light years away? We even have not set our foot on our closest neighbor yet. Scientists thought that it would be great to rely on artificial intelligence.
We have two ways of using AI to colonize the space. First, the AI should be smarter than humans to unlock the interstellar travel and its secrets. Otherwise, scientists believed we could use another potential way like using the wormholes. So, providing AI does not kill us before we can solve all problems for space colonization.
Second, humans could develop intelligent beings, and they are programmed. We would be using them to seek the habitable planets. Additionally, we could build the intergalactic highway for humans.

7. Genetically Engineered Embryos

Humans are terrible for exploring space. That is why it would be hard for us to colonizing the space. For instance, if you go to Mars for 18 to 30 months, you will get some potential health problems like cancer, bone density loss, tissue degradation, brain damage, and others. Therefore, some people thought it would be possible to colonize a new planet if they have genetically modified humans as the first generation to stay there.
By modifying embryos, they could survive even better on the planet. We need to send the embryos to the new planet and help them to grow.

6. Genetically Modified Humans

The closest star from our planet is Alpha Centauri, which is about 4.24 light years away. On the other hands, the familiar habitable planet is 14 light years away. Therefore, we need an outstanding and advanced technology to travel to the closest neighbors and colonize them. We need the best way to transport humans. NASA up to now, have been developing the deep hibernation technology as the possible way.
Meanwhile, having someone sleep for their life away on the ship is not much help when it is about colonization efforts. Therefore, genetically engineer became a simple solution to it. This type of technology is not too far off. Some scientists believe that the first person that could live to the age of 1,000 is still alive today, Keith Richards.
So, if humans were genetically modified to live longer, of course, they could do better on the journey to the universe, not for sleeping. We could eliminate the need for deep hibernation to save energy. If that was the matter, we need more genetic modification to remove their boredom and loneliness. To do so, scientists should modify their brains and eliminate their feelings.

5. Evolution

There is a nice theory about space colonization. It tells us that humans evolve and they will be more capable of traversing the universe. Many scientists also believe that the first people on Mars and settle there will have drastic changes in their bodies. The changes mean that their body adjusts to life there. The changes will be much possible when they have kids. Their bodies and psychology will change more and more.
The evidence to support this theory is the dispersion of humans in its history. When humans expanded to the new areas on Earth, they became more diverse. Therefore, when some people move to a different planet, they will have some changes due to the new environment. Probably, it becomes the beginning of evolution. The evolution will continue so humans can get better when they do space travel or live on the other planets.

4. Self-Replicating Probes

At the end of the 1940s, John Von Neumann, the Hungarian mathematician developed self-replicating robot plans named Universal Conductors. It was the tiny robots with self-replicate exponentially capability. It means, two robots could build four, and four could build 16 and others. Can you imagine what about millions of robots? They could construct millions of robots, too.
It is okay that he did not develop space exploration, but this plan can be a possible way to colonize space. Michio Kaku is a physicist, said that it is the most effective way to colonize space. The idea is the robots would seek out the dead moons and set up factories so they could build other robots by using natural deposits like iron and nickel.

3. Dyson Spheres

It was a thought experiment done by astronomer and a physicist, Freeman J. Dyson. What he did was to figure out the advanced alien life in the universe.
At this point, Dyson thought that aliens were so advanced that they could collect energy in the galaxy. They also built energy catching sphere to maximize their energy levels. As a result, it produced infrared radiation. Therefore, he advised seeking high levels of infrared radiations.
Another study from Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute argued that we could create the Dyson Spheres by using something like the self-replicating robots above. Here, we could get more energy to colonize the universe.

2. Microorganisms Terraforming

The challenging problem to deal with moving humans to another planet is because the closets planets are uninhabitable. Mars is too dry and too cold. The only way is terraforming, or it means Earth Shaping.
The plan related to terraforming Mars means we need some microorganisms to consume the natural resources on Mars. Of course, there would be two effects on the planet. First, it would transform the soil, meaning vegetation could be possible, and it leads to more oxygen. Second, we need the microorganisms to pump gas out into the air and increase the thickness of the atmosphere around the planet. So, the planet will be warmer. As a result, water would be more available. A microbiologist, Gary King at Lousiana State University said, humans would be possible to start this plan in less than 200 years.

1. Bacteria

DNA is still the best data storage system on Earth. DNA has its complex information onto it, such as the human genome that is about 750 megabytes of data. DNA is also durable that can survive in the space and DNA is versatile.
In the next 20 years, many scientists believe that there should be a technology to support humans store their DNA in bacteria. Then, they will send the bacteria to the distant planet with microbes to terraform the planet. The task is to program the instructions into the bacteria so we can know what they will do once they reached their destination.
